The Junior League of Cedar Rapids has a long history of making a positive impact in our community. It’s important to us that our work have meaning and value today, and leave a lasting legacy for future generations of women. Our organization has been responsible for successes throughout Cedar Rapids like Playtime Poppy, the Science Station, the Madge Phillips Center and more.
So when our membership learned that 40% of children in foster care in our area were teens, and that approximately 25 of those teens “age out” (turn 18, when state assistance ceases) with very little support system in place after their 18th birthday, we knew there was work to be done.
We are proud to support a variety of foster care efforts through our Bridging the G.A.P program (find more info here). This blog will take you on a journey through “the system”. You’ll meet key players, learn about our work, and more importantly you will learn how you can help us make a difference.
