What is the purpose of Junior League of Cedar Rapids?
Junior League of Cedar Rapids, Inc. (JLCR) is an organization of women committed to promoting voluntarism, developing the potential of women and improving communities through effective action and leadership of trained volunteers.
Founded in 1934, we have approximately 300 Active and Sustaining Members. We reach out to all women, regardless of race, religion, ethnic or national origin, who demonstrate an interest in and commitment to voluntarism.
Who is a typical JLCR member?
We come from all walks of life, andare a wide range of ages. . We are a diverse organization that welcomes and celebrates women of all backgrounds. Each member brings her own unique perspective to our organization and enriches our League.
We are young professionals and stay-at-home moms, executive directors and presidents, independent contractors and business owners, but above all, we are women who want to improve our communities and ourselves.
How is JLCR different from other volunteer organizations?
JLCR specifically emphasizes training; though these trainings are generally geared toward voluntarism and the advancement of JLCR, each of our members has found that she can transfer these skills to her professional life, her personal life, and her other volunteer commitments. As part of our mission, we not only serve the community, but also are committed to developing the potential of women.
