What does Membership in the Junior League mean?

The Junior League of Cedar Rapids is an organization of women committed to promoting voluntarism, developing the potential of women, and improving the community through the effective action and leadership of trained volunteers. Its purpose is exclusively educational and charitable.

The Junior League of Cedar Rapids welcomes active members who willingly commit to the organization's mission and purpose. All members in good standing demonstrate their commitment by meeting the following membership requirements:

Provisional Membership:

Your first year with League, you are considered a provisional member. Provisional members are asked to attend as many provisional training meetings as possible. They generally meet once a month. The Junior League's active year runs from September through May, when you graduate to Active status.  Learn more about the Provisional Class.

Time and Financial Commitments for Active Members:

  • Attend 6 of 9 General Membership Meetings or designated alternatives
  • Serve actively on one or more JLCR committees
  • Contribute 10 volunteer hours to the community events JLCR has selected through membership vote
  • Contribute 10 hours to JLCR by participating in the organization's fundraising activities and meet financial commitments as approved by membership vote

Once you become an active member of League you are responsible for an annual membership fee of $105 due each March. There are some additional fundraising obligations that include donating $90 towards either one of our major fundraising events each year.

Dues entitle members to the resources of the Association of Junior Leagues International, local leadership training opportunities, as well as newsletters and mailings distributed from local and national organizations.
