What does Membership in Junior League of Cedar Rapids mean?
Junior League of Cedar Rapids is an organization of women committed to promoting voluntarism, developing the potential of women, and improving communities through the effective action and leadership of trained volunteers. Its purpose is exclusively educational and charitable.
Junior League of Cedar Rapids welcomes new and active members who willingly commit to the organization's mission and purpose. Membership in League is an opportunity for women to enhance their community with like-minded women while further developing their own talents and capacities. Women new to Junior League of Cedar Rapids begin their development through participation in as a New Member, also known as Provisional Member.
New Membership
During your first year with League, you are considered a new or provisional member. During this first year, you will be asked to participate in new member training meetings and in a community project. New member meetings generally occur one time per month during Junior League's active year, which runs from September through May. New members are encouraged to attend as many of the meetings as possible. In addition, new members will work together on a community project to further the League mission. Active Membership
All members in good standing demonstrate their commitment to League’s mission by meeting the following membership requirements:
Time and Financial Commitments for Active Members:
• Attend six of nine General Membership Meetings or designated alternatives during Junior League’s active year, which runs from September to May
• Serve actively on one or more JLCR committees
• Contribute 10 volunteer hours to the community events JLCR has selected through membership vote
• Contribute 10 hours to JLCR by participating in the organization's fundraising activities.
• Fulfill a $90 fundraising commitment through participating in JLCR fundraisers.
• Fulfill the annual membership fee of $107 per year. *
* Once you become an active member of League you are responsible for an annual membership fee due each March. Dues entitle members to the resources of the Association of Junior Leagues International, local leadership training opportunities, as well as newsletters and mailings distributed from local and national organizations.
