Who is the Junior League of Cedar Rapids?
The Junior Leage of Cedar Rapids, Inc. (JLCR) is an organization of women committed to promoting voluntarism, developing the potential of women and improving the community through effective action and leadership of trained volunteers.
Founded in 1934, we have approximately 300 Active and Sustaining Members. We reach out to all women, regardless of race, religion, ethnic or national origin, who demonstrates an interest in and commitment to volunteerism. Our focus surrounds youth, yamily and the underserved.
Who is a typical JLCR member?
We come from all walks of life. This is a diverse organization that welcomes and celebrates women of all backgrounds. Each member brings her own unique perspective to our organization and enriches our league.
How is JLCR different from other volunteer organizations?
JLCR is different from other organizations because of our emphasis on training. As part of our mission, we not only serve the community, but also are committed to developing the potential of women.
How do I join JLCR?
Anyone who lives in the greater Cedar Rapids or Eastern Iowa area can join the Junior League of Cedar Rapids. For more information on upcoming informational meetings for prospective members, contact the JLCR Headquarters or visit our Provisional Class page. We typically hold Informational Meetings in September.
As a new member, what can I expect?
Our New Member Class starts each Fall and lasts for one year. During this time, you be able to experience a sampling of all that the Junior League of Cedar Rapids offers. Specifically, there is a New Member course, General Membership Meetings and your very own New Member Project! Throughout the year, there are also opportunities to actively participate at the Junior League projects, attend social events and establish life-long friendships. Each New Member will have an Advisor who will mentor her through the year.
